Documentation Centre for Displacement, Expulsion and Reconciliation

The permanent exhibition in the new Documentation Centre of the Foundation is located on an area of 1,500 sqm on the first and second upper floors. It explains the causes, course and consequences of politically, ethnically and religiously motivated flight, expulsion and forced migration in the 20th and 21st centuries in Europe and beyond. The experiences of flight, expulsion and arrival of Germans during and after the Second World War form the central focus of the museum narrative.

We were responsible for the exhibition construction works on both floors. This included the realization of high-quality architectural elements using lacquered and HPL-coated panel materials, aluminum and metal constructions, solid surface materials, upholstered artificial leather seating, cabling for media and lighting technology, the lighting itself, as well as large-scale, table and wall display cases made of glass and acrylic, some with integrated museum lighting.

The display tables made of solid surface material on the second upper floor can be raised at the push of a button across the full depth of the furniture to allow installation of exhibits. On the first upper floor, for example, cable routes for lighting and media technology had to be installed within the delicate tubular structures of the furniture. All furnishings are the result of a sophisticated combination of function, design and technology.
